Her First Place, Inc. was founded in 2022 in Austin, Texas. Her First Place is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps Black women navigate the purchase of their first home, so they can build wealth and leave a legacy.
J. René Walker is an award-winning Real Estate Broker with Compass Real Estate and founder of Her First Place, Inc. She believes homeownership isn’t just a dream — it’s a legacy. Through education, empowerment, and advocacy, she helps Black women buy their first home while building generational wealth.

From the smell of her own home-cooked meal filling her kitchen, to kicking off her shoes and sinking into the sofa after a long day, to laughing in a space that belongs to her — every Black woman is worthy of all of it. Not someday. Not “when everything lines up.” But now.
Her First Place was created to turn her wish into her reality.
To remind her that she is not asking for too much.
And to guide her, step by step, into the life she deserves — with the keys in her hand and her name on the deed.
